Moda Building Blocks

Like many people, I fell in love with the Moda Building Blocks quilt when it debuted at quilt market in 2014.  I bought the kit, oohed over it when it arrived, and then stuck it on a shelf in my closet to make "someday".  I even had the backing fabric.  Then it sat and sat and sat.  Until a friend posted on Instagram that she was joining a quilt-along to make it.  I'm a sucker for a good quilt-along and I already had both the pattern and the fabric so I jumped in.  I'm so glad for the kick in the butt because it's done and I love it!

I loved making this quilt so much that I actually finished it ahead of schedule.  It's huge so I had it long-armed and I still finished it before the end of the quilt-along.  If you look closely, there are a few changes from the original pattern, including the lost block from my Animal City Sampler.  And no, this is not what winter in Minnesota looks like.  I wasn't happy with my original picture, so I retook this at a local park in May when I was photographing a few other quilts.  Might as well drag three quilts out there instead of just two, right?  This quilt lives in my room for when I need an extra quilt at night.
