April Goal Update

Image
My quilty goal for April was to make some progress on my son's current quilting project, the Sleigh Bell Sampler.  Over spring break, we managed to fulfill my minimum goal , which was to border each of the squares (the next step in assembling the top). I'm happy to say that despite me spending most of the month quilting my Release the Kraken quilt , there was some more progress on his top!  First, we made all of the red and white hourglass blocks.  Next, we made the six green diamond blocks.  Right now, we are working on sewing the white sashing to the hourglass blocks. My son had a blast deciding on a final layout for all his blocks.  Once we get this center part assembled, there are two more borders to finish it.  He also informed me today that he wants to piece a giant sleigh to go on the back of the quilt - we'll see!  This is currently out on my design floor and I'm hoping we can finish putting it together this week (I need that floor space for other proj

Temperature Quilt Check-In: Six Rows!

Image
My temperature quilt is now roughly the size of a table runner: I'm loving how it looks, but there should be a whole lot more than two yellow squares so far!  The weatherman said that we should be getting back to "normal" temperatures this week and I hope he is right!  The last two purples look a little more pink sewn into this, but their weirdness will just remind me of the April snowstorm that dropped fourteen inches of snow on us.  This quilt has no rules except that there's no unpicking, so once it's in, it's in.  Poor fabric choices just become part of the story.

Spring Break Sewing

My kids had a late spring break this year and we were only able to get away for a long weekend.  Unlike our winter break, everyone was healthy so we were able to get out and have some fun in our city.  But in between excursions and board games, we all got a little bit of sewing in! First up, was my oldest son.  His project was my quilty goal for April and I'm happy to say that we finished the first step of assembling the top.  All of his blocks have been framed in the red snowflake pattern and trimmed to the same size. My middle son has been working on the same quilt for almost three years now.  We looked at the time stamp on the first block he made and it was May 1, 2015!  It's so close to being done, but most of the time he'd rather play Minecraft than sew with mom. When I do coax him down we always have a good time.  Seeing his brothers sewing really inspired him though, and we got two more blocks done! My youngest is working on a very unique sampler quil

One Quilty Goal - April 2018

Image
The logical goal for April would probably be to quilt my Release the Kraken quilt top that I finished last month; however, I'm trying to use this challenge to stretch myself so I decided to pick something different. My son was paging through one of my quilt books last fall and decided he wanted to make the Sleigh Bell Sampler quilt from Sherri Fall's Winter Wonderland book .  We've got all the quilt blocks made, but that's it.  My goal for this month is to start finishing it with him. At a minimum, I hope to sew the red snowflake border around each of the twelve squares, but I'd really like to finish the whole top with him!  It sounds easy, but sometimes we struggle to find time where we are both interested in sewing with each other at the same time.  I'm hoping spring break is when we can make it happen! I'm linking up this goal with Elm Street Quilts .
