100 Days 2021

It's June 1st!  Only one month until my favorite annual quilt-along begins: 100 Days 100 Blocks hosted by Angie at Gnome Angel!  I've made six quilts in this quilt-along over the years and I'm looking forward to this year just as much!

My first 100 Days quilt was the Animal City quilt in 2016.  Each block has a different animal print and a solid fabric.

In 2018, I split the 100 blocks between two different quilts (some blocks are in both quilts).  One version is all blue and green scraps with the blocks enlarged to 10".  In hindsight, I wish I would have assembled them in a checkerboard pattern, but this one gets frequent use by the kids so I guess it's fine as is!

The other blocks went into what is probably my favorite 100 Days quilt, Pandamonium.  I chose a single focus fabric and four coordinating solids, then used scrappy fabrics that matched the solids.

In 2019, the pattern switched to Angie's own Kinship pattern and I decided to make my Kinship Quilt in the crazy quilt style; anything goes!

Last year, I kicked off the 100 Days project by participating in the Battle of the Blocks contest Angie organized.

Finally, 2020's 100 Days project, Quarantine Cut, got me through my early pandemic sewing funk.  This one was scrappy as well, but followed Angie's color scheme to make a truly magnificent pair of giant scissors!

Looking at these all together, I think it's safe to say my quilt photography has gotten better over the years too!

So what's the plan for this year? I've been focusing on using up my stash and I found this old fat eighth bundle of Wonderland fabric.  I'm planning on pulling a few coordinating fat quarters and adding in scraps when I feel like they fit.  The key to this project for me is to have a central theme that still lets me be creative so I don't get bored with it.

I hope you'll consider joining in too!  Not only has my photography gotten better, so has my piecing - in that first challenge almost none of my finished blocks actually measured 6.5" unfinished.  The "L" shaped sashing was a deliberate choice to hide the difference in sizes (and it worked perfectly!).

The pattern for this year is Kinship (affiliate link), and I adore it.  The blocks are two different sizes and each day's block is completely different from the day before.  You can save 10% on the pattern with the code BLUEPIP.

Still not convinced?  Check out Angie's informational post and sign up for the event newsletter (even if you're on the fence!).  Angie is also offering a brand-new free 21 day bootcamp to help you get started!

And a parting shot of all six of my 100 Days quilts together in one place - it took some doing to find all of them, but here they are!  This year Angie is offering new alternate layouts for fewer blocks - perfect if you want a smaller quilt or just get sick of the quilt-along halfway through.  To paraphrase Trolls, "No quilt block left behind!"  I'll be back later this month to show off my Wonderland version for 2021!
