Shades of Summer
I can't think of a better way to kick off summer than with a beautiful, beachy photo of my latest finish, Shades of Summer!
(I'd like to give a special shoutout to the child who forgot their tie-dye
crocs at the beach; they were the perfect compliment to the flip-flops we
brought with!).
The name of this quilt comes from the fabric line I used,
Shades of Summer. It's bright and perfect for summer! The pattern is the latest
in Angie Wilson's 9-patch parade and is called
Starry Technicolor Chaos (affiliate link), and I pulled out my
almost no-waste flying geese tutorial to make the border part go super quickly!
I quilted this one myself with big swirls, focusing on keeping them at least
three inches in diameter. I had a plastic bowl that was the right size
to help me eyeball the first couple of swirls, but as I got going it was easy
to keep the pattern going (obviously there are a few smaller ones in there as
fillers). It felt good to do some of my own free-motion quilting again!
The swirls show up a little better on the back, which is just pieced from
three different cuts of fabric. Offsetting the top and bottom pieces was
a last-second decision which gives it a little more interest.
Starry Technicolor Chaos (affiliate link) is available now in Angie's shop and you can save 10% on it or anything else there with the code BLUEPIP!
I hope you are having a wonderful start to summer as well!
