Quilt Block Summer Week 11

Image
Welcome to this week's Quilt Block Summer Summary!  My husband and oldest son went on a camping trip last weekend so I had plenty of time to sew after the little boys were in bed - I'm almost back on track! Temperature Quilt 2018 The weather has been beautiful for living, but not great for my temperature quilt - I'm almost out of the yellow.  Time to order more. Harry Potter Bookcase This week I made the bag from Weasley's Wizarding Wheezes.  I've had this black and green fabric in my stash forever and I'm so pleased to finally have a place to use it.  To me, the cut-off motifs just make it look like the bag is nice and slouchy - who knows what's inside! 2018 Summer Sampler I made three blocks this week and the name of the game was "mix it up!"  In Block 8, Castillo, I combined the two paper-pieced sections for the outer corners into one using Photoshop.   This made one less section to join per quadrant and all of my top corners a

July Goal Update: Cat Quilt Complete!

My goal for this month was to finish the charity quilt that I made with a group back in May.  I wanted to deliver it to our July guild meeting held last week and I'm happy to say I was successful. First up was a bit of repair.  I removed the eyes that we added solely because the contest required us to use that green fabric.  I also removed the wonky corner and added a new one that was square.  Then I just had to quilt and bind it.  I decided to go simple with a single light-colored thread in the colored areas and a black meander in the background. My quilt holders were a little less cooperative when I tried to get a picture of the back, but you can still get the general idea.  I used the leftover stripes from the front and pieced it with the extra chunks of solids. This will hopefully bring a child some comfort at the children's hospital. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Quilt Block Summer Week 10

Welcome to this week's Quilt Block Summer Summary!  I actually took a break from making blocks this week; instead I spent some time finishing a quilt this week (quilting and binding)!  I'm excited to have my July OMG finished well ahead of schedule and I'll post pictures of it next week.  As a result, however, I was only able to stay on track with my daily quilt blocks. Temperature Quilt 2018 Another row is done!  Lots of orange and red this week - I'm still waiting for my first monochrome block!  And how is our fabulous summer vacation already two rows up? #100Days100Blocks2018 My trick to staying caught up with this quilt?  Always sew the blocks a day ahead.  This week, I sewed three day's worth before I started quilting my other project so I would be ready to go.  I'm determined to get all 100 blocks posted on the correct days! Hope you had a great sewing week too!  I'm looking forward to making blocks again next week!

Charm Pack Placemat Remix

Image
Good morning!  Before we get to today's  Quilt Block Summer  post, I want to share a project I made for the Fat Quarter Shop's new Blog Remix series !  They are revamping old tutorials with new fabrics and I made this bright and colorful Charm Pack Placemat using the Foundation fabric from Windham Fabrics . I'd highly recommend watching the YouTube video for this placemat all the way through - there's a new method for sewing 4-patches that I've never seen before and I was very impressed with how well it worked. It's quilted in an all-over loop-de-loop pattern in my new favorite Aurifil color, Sea Biscuit (6722) .  I got a tiny spool in one of my Sew Sampler boxes and it's the perfect off-white to blend with almost everything.  I've already used up the tiny spool and moved onto a regular-sized one. My family doesn't use placemats, but we often serve our meals right out of pans and have a ton of potholders sitting on the table.  Our favorites

Welcome to this week's Quilt Block Summer Summary!  It's been a bit of a juggling act as I work in my daily 100 day blocks, but I'm not going to complain about extra time in the sewing room! Temperature Quilt 2018 It's been one of those weeks where every day feels the same as the one before it, so I was surprised to see so much color variation in the finished blocks. Harry Potter Bookcase I made four books for shelf four this week.  All of them are improv pieced in the style of the books I've paper-pieced already. 2018 Summer Sampler I'm running a week behind on posting these for this series, but this was finished before the new block was released so I'm on-time for the quilt-along. Ricochet Quilt This is one of my original Cotton + Steel fabrics.  It's far less busy than a lot of the other blocks, but I like its sweet simplicity. Trinket Quilt I made a few edits this week (some intentional, some not) and I think this is

2018 Mid-Year Review

I was scrolling Instagram earlier this week and somehow ended up on Yvonne from Quilting JetGirl's page .  Here I found a link to this post which helped me fix my comment problems.  My apologizes if you've recently left a comment and I didn't reply to you.  I do appreciate all the comments that I get!!  Second, Yvonne is also hosting a link-up to review our yearly goals .  I've been faithfully updating my 2018 Quilt Goals , but I doubt anyone is checking up on my regularly so I decided to play along with this post. I started the year with a very ambitious list of twelve quilts, all of them in various stages of completion.  The idea was to finish one quilt per month.  I started off strong, finishing one quilt each in January, February, and April. January - I-Spy Baby Quilt February - Magnolia Mystery Quilt April - Release the Kraken In May, I tackled one of the oldest projects on my list, which just needed to be quilted and bound.  I started to qu

Quilt Block Summer Week 8

Welcome to this week's Quilt Block Summer Summary!  Between the rain and my kids going to a day camp, I had a lot of time to sew (though my pictures did suffer a little bit). Temperature Quilt 2018 It's hard to believe that this top is halfway done already!  Minnesota celebrated by giving us a pair of days that had low temperatures in the 70s - my first pink outsides. And for once the weather cooperated with my fabric for a holiday.  I pieced a tiny flag to represent the 4th of July. Harry Potter Bookcase Luna's glasses went together much quicker than I thought they would.  I've had the pink rosebud scraps forever and it was nice to find the perfect home for them! 2018 Summer Sampler There was no new block this week, but I'm still not caught up.  Block six is called Versailles and was supposed to be easy, so of course I shrunk it down to create a repeated pattern.  This is a bit of a tradition with me - I did the same with the ice cream c

One Quilty Goal - July 2018

I've been focusing on my Quilt Block Summer initiative since May, but this month I do have a project that needs to be finished.  My quilt guild had a Stitched competition at its May meeting and my group made this cute cat quilt in ninety minutes! We had a mystery bag of solid fabrics and had to make a quilt of at least 24"x24".  30 minutes in we were given the green fabric and told we had to incorporate it (the cat's eyes) and 60 minutes in we were told we had to have at least one log cabin block. My goal for the month is to finish this quilt.  One of the corners is not square so I need to replace it before I can quilt and bind it.  The quilt is going to be donated to a local children's hospital when it is finished. I am linking up my goal with Elm Street Quilts .
