My Ruby Star Journey: A Finished Pebbled Prairie Quilt

If you're been following along with my Pebbled Prairie QAL, then you know what I've been working on for the past several weeks.  Today, it is time for the big reveal!

This quilt was a fun trip through my stash of Ruby Star fabrics that I've accumulated over the years, from the initial collections up to some new fabric that I bought for a project I'm planning on doing next year.  I also went far scrappier with this one than with any other Pebbled Prairie quilt that I have made; aside from the centers, each motif doesn't have a single repeating fabric.

Here's a close-up of the fabrics that are in each block - do you see any favorites?  I love looking at this because I see so many of my old projects in there.  There's also a fair bit of fussy cutting, which is fun when you only need to cut nine squares from each fabric.  The only fabrics I bought for this quilt are the sashing, binding, and backing because I tend to stash fat quarters or half-yard cuts and didn't have anything large enough for those parts of the quilt.

The back was a lucky find at my local FQS.  I was looking at their sale rack and was delighted to find this older Ruby Star print in the final closeout area.  In contrast, the binding is from one of their newest collections.  I kept the quilting simple by doing a large meander in a mustard-colored thread because there's so much going on in the individual fabrics that I didn't want the quilting to be a distraction.

I finished the quilt on Saturday evening and my husband and I went out to take the photo with this flowery tunnel first thing Sunday morning (so early that our teenagers were still sleeping when we got home).  I've had my eye on this as a quilt photo location for quite some time now and have just been waiting for the perfect quilt to photograph there.  This one was worth the wait!

This is the large throw version of Pebbled Prairie, set in a traditional 3x3 grid.  The pattern contains instructions for both the traditional and a modern off-set layout, as well as a bonus four-color layout.  You can find it in both my BluePip Designs pattern shop and my Etsy shop, where it is part of the 25% off Holiday Sale that is active until December 3, 2024.  The discount will be automatically applied in your cart in the pattern shop, no coupon code needed.  Thank you for supporting my small business!
